The call for proposals in the Scholarships activity co-financed under the EEA/Norway Grants’ Research and Scholarship Programme in Latvia closed on 23rd January 2015.

There have been 33 project proposals for the total amount of co-financing 1 547 080 euro submitted up to the deadline. It is more than the total available co-financing of 1 045 037 euro under the Scholarship activity, where EEA grants’ co-financing amount up to 482 973 euro, Norway grants’ co-financing amount up to 457 560 euro and Latvian budget co-financing – 104 504 euro. The call was launched on 10th November 2014.

The State Education development agency (SEDA) has now started the administrative and eligibility evaluation of the project proposals. It is estimated to be finished by the end of February. Afterwards the project proposals will be passed for quality evalutaion (each application will be carried out by at least 2 experts – one delegated by the Donor Programme Partner (the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation on Education), the other – by the PO). The results are expected within two months after the administrative evaluation.

The overall objective of the Scholarship Activity is to increase human and social development and education in Latvia, improving knowledge and promoting the mobility of academic staff and degree students through bilateral cooperation between the Donor States (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) and Latvia. It provides higher education students and staff with the opportunity to obtain valuable international experience and exchange expertise in all thematic areas and study fields. Mobility of any type of students and staff from Latvia to Donor States and from Donor States to Latvia can be funded from the project budget, i.e. two-way mobility is eligible.
