The competition will define the best young professionals in retail

On September 15 and 16, 2020, Riga National Technical School for Tourism and Creative Industries (RTRIT) will host the SkillsLatvia 2020 national competition for young professionals called “Retail sales” to select participants who will represent Latvia in the international competition for young professionals EuroSkills 2020 in Austria in January 2021.

The "Retail sales" skills competition will take place for the first time. Five students from Jēkabpils Agribusiness College, Riga Trade vocational secondary School, Riga State Technical School, Kandava Agricultural Technical School and RTRIT will compete in sales skills.

The tasks of the competition have been made and its implementation will be evaluated by experts - industry professionals. During the first day of the practical task, the competitors will present the goods to the evaluation commission and prepare them for sale. The tasks of the participants also include arranging the store premises and servicing buyers in Latvian. The second day of the competition will start with a task - customer service in English. Competitors will also perform a task on business correspondence, on the application of a discount to the product, as well as take a knowledge test on sales promotion and product inventory.

In the international young professionals' mastery competition EuroSkills 2020, Latvian participants will participate in 18 skills competitions. The Latvian team will participate in the sales skills competition for the first time, and no national selection has taken place so far, because in 2020, due to the Covid-19 emergency situation, the national SkillsLatvia competition for young professionals did not take place. In other skills competitions, the Latvian team members have been selected in the SkillsLatvia skills competitions for young professionals of previous years.

SkillsLatvia competitions and the participation of the Latvian team in the EuroSkills2020 competition are financed by the European Social Fund project “Career Support in General and Vocational Education Institutions” in order to promote the development of vocational education, international competitiveness and quality. The project is implemented by the State Education Development Agency until May 31, 2022.
